1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next four to seven sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest [unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1].
6. Tag five people.

There was a rustling from up ahead. Reddy took her by the arm and gently pulled her down behind a fallen trunk. 'Look, there's some violence now. Best to keep away while they're doing it. You'll be interested.'

Rose could just make out the figures of two Neanderthal men about 200 yards away. She realised Reddy would have enhanced eyesight and hearing, much better than hers. For all she knew, he might be able to zoom in on the scene.

The whole world was talking about Strelka and Belka. But to us, these two ordinary mongrels meant a great deal. The television installation on board the ship was similar to the one the Chief Designer showed us by means of which scientists observed the behavior, general condition and mood of the cosmic scouts.

We saw the television filmin which the startled dogs were shown looking at the floor of the cabin and listening guardedly to the unusual noise at the moment of takeoff.

At the heart of this tension are directly political questions about the relationship between experience and knowledge, about which kinds of knowledge most easily legitimate themselves as experience, about the class structure in relation to types of knowledge and about whether working-class autobiography as knowledge would have been in the nineteenth century 'a means of reinforcing or undermining the ediface of political and economic power which the middle class was attempting to construct'. What this kind of approach does is to establish, prior to a study of autobiographical content, an understanding of working-class consciousness as potentially, latently in tension (reinforcing or undermining) with dominant or middle-class versions of knowledge. This kind of strategy is at its most noticeable in Vincent's outline of some aspects of his research method, for instance, the assumption of an understanding of what constitutes "the working class" in his intention to study only those autobiographies where the autobiographer is the child of a working man and has 'remained a member of the working class until the composition of his memoirs'. For a variety of reasons, these kinds of classification are unlikely to lead Vincent to women's texts.

I cringed as the whining started up again, but this time, after a couple of seconds, the engine roared into life. Well, not roared, exactly, but it started. Alex revved up the engine, pumping it like a maniac, keeping it going, then I heard a crunching sound as she looked for the right gear, followed by the squeak of the emergency brake, then more revving, more crunching.... Why did she have to make so much noise?

Unfortunately for you, I'm in MY LIBRARY. So I don't even have to dig for a smart book! (The internet is being lol fail in my room).

"He informed John that Brave Bear and Walking Woman wanted to adopt him as their son to replace the son they had recently lost. This was in accordance with plains tradition."
-Little Bighorn Remembered" The Undold Indian Story of Custer's Last Stand

I would have typed more of it to show off, but it is heavy heavy book. (If I were upstairs in my proper room, you would be getting an excerpt from the Rocky and Bullwinkle coffee table book.)

"So formal. I remember being the same with my own father. I sometimes think that he didn't know me at all, and I worry that the same thing will happen to us. So I want to talk, son, not about bank accounts. Not about stocks and shares. Not corporate takeovers. I don't want to talk business, I want to talk about you."

And I think it's the American version too. XD
